About Richard

I graduated from Temple University in 2021 with a 3.7 GPA. I actually studied Finance and Economics, but LOVED all my math classes. I would tutor at school, help my colleagues, and talk to my friends about what I was learning in math. I just genuinely enjoy the subject and love how meditative math can be. In college, I would sit down, go through the massive problem set which sometimes took hours, and then realize for those couple hours I didn't stress about the future, my life, my job, the past.. I was present in the moment and thinking about nothing but math. I don't think everyone experiences this, must be a passion of mine :D

Aside from this, I work as a Financial Analyst at a Real Estate Development firm. I'm punctual, patient, and professional. I can also explain things very well. My girlfriend and my friends tell me this all the time - I can take complex concepts in math (or finance and economics, but that's not relevant here) and break them down into very digestible explanations. Math can be intimidating, but it truly is not that difficult. There are parallels that can be drawn between mathematical concepts and things that appear in everyday life. The most important thing when it comes to learning math is having the right teacher who actually teaches and understands at a deep level. It's not enough to say "if you see this then do this"... that requires memorization and pattern recognition which is NOT the way to truly learn. When you truly understand math, you will read a problem and within 5 seconds know exactly what to do, how to do, and most importantly WHY YOU'RE DOING IT

Math is beautiful if you have someone teach it properly. Lots of professors/teachers just want to rush students through the material, because the curriculum is on a tight schedule. Oftentimes, this forces professors/teachers to only "teach" what to do and how to do it and move on from there. THIS IS NOT GOOD. All this does is teaches pattern recognition and can leave students staring at a problem trying to magically remember what the professor said about a problem like this two weeks ago in a lecture or class. Like I said... NOT GOOD. The most important part to teach is WHY. This will lead to no hesitation when faced with any math problem. I've gotten high A's in Pre-Calc/Calculus 1 by reading the textbook and understanding the concepts at a deep level AND THE REASONING behind how to solve them. I can explain complex concepts/reasonings in very simple/digestible ways. I will identify where you're struggling, what part(s) you aren't fully understanding and guide you through it very quickly. One of the most important tools in math is the graphing calculator. It was my best friend when learning new concepts, as it gives a VISUAL context to the abstract concepts in math. I will walk through concepts carefully and thoroughly, and graphing when necessary, ensuring that no stone is left unturned. Ultimately, you will be able to read a math prompt, look at the problem, and immediately put the pencil to the paper and begin the problem, knowing exactly what to do, how to do it, AND WHY YOU'RE DOING IT.
