About Eric
I have been studying mathematics and physics in my free time since I w as a child. Presently I am in the progress of getting a four-year degree in Mathematics and Physics. In addition to my formal education I have spent 15 years as a non-traditional learner which requires constant discipline, review, and expansion my potential. I am presently working in various areas of Analysis to better my understanding of the theory of calculus at its core. My favorite topics are: Quantum Field Theory and Differential Geometry.

Mathematics and physics are both topics that often escape the understanding of other students. I think it is very important to approach these subjects from new perspectives that make the information being taught easy to remember and apply in the real world. I stick to standard texts in order to remain aligned with the state curriculum, however, I have also worked through dozens of calculus textbooks for the sake of having more practice, so I try to apply the perspectives from all the texts I have done while ensuring necessary definitions and forms are taught.
I am a non-traditional learner who is currently two years into a double major Bachelors of Science in Mathematics and Physics. In addition to being a student I have been a non-traditional learner in these subjects for over 15 years. I have experience in many sub-fields beyond undergraduate education and am always pushing myself to learn more. My intention in trying to tutor is to: A) do work I love and value for a change, B) stay sharp at lower level mathematics, C) help struggling students understand that nobody is naturally bad at math, math is often simply presented poorly.
The specific subjects I am comfortable teaching at this moment are:
High School Algebra
Trigonometry
Geometry
Pre-Physics (where offered)
Calculus I/AP Calculus AB
Calculus II/AP Calculus BC
Calculus III/Vector Calculus
Linear Algebra
Differential Equations I
Physics/General High School Physics
Physics I/AP Physics I (Calculus or Algebra based)
Physics II/AP Physics II (Calculus or Algebra based)
A typical lesson plan will consist of:
1) Identifying weaknesses in understanding:
Typically the issue a student is having with a particular math/science subject is due to a failure earlier in education to give that student extra practice on a fundamental aspect of math/science. Your Geometry or Algebra skills can severely impact your ability to do Calculus, so sometimes your sessions with me for Calculus may have us reviewing Algebra with the intent of making you better at both.
2) Fundamentals of the Topic:
Going over fundamental theorems in the topic and repeating troubled topics until they become as automatic as addition and subtraction to the individual. The second stage primarily focuses on strengthening difficult areas within the subject at hand, hopefully at this point very little review of prior subjects is necessary and we can begin to focus on completing your understanding of i.e. Calculus.
3) Capstone testing and review:
At this point in the tutoring process I intend to be helping you prepare for your final examination in the subject. More complicated practice problems, specifically special-case problems the student has trouble with, will be administered in order to polish off any misunderstandings and to help the student in question recognize their difficult areas. Sometimes the issue is as simple as remembering to check your work twice every time.
I am comfortable working with students in high school as well as university, however, I am only comfortable teaching those freshman/sophomore university topics currently, and am liable to tutor based on public curricula/standard texts (i.e. If your professor has specific notational preferences.)
