About Sami
I am a UBC graduate specializing in Chemistry, Life Sciences, and Earth and Environmental Sciences. I am fluent in Mandarin and have intermediate knowledge in French. I have 10+ years of experience working with children and 4+ years of experience working for several tutoring companies. I have experience tutoring both primary and secondary students in Chemistry, General Science and Math, French, Pre-Calculus, and Calculus. I currently work as a Program Coordinator at a before and after school care program, therefore I am familiar with school-age children's interests, learning styles, and how to build overall positive experiences for children! My full-time job as a Program Coordinator also allows me to have both daytime and evening availability for tutoring, offering flexible scheduling for my students.

As a tutor, I firmly believe that connecting with my students is an integral part of the learning process and helps contribute to their success, therefore I strive to build rapport with my students. I encourage my students to get involved in the learning process and demonstrate their understanding by attempting questions on their own, explaining their work to recognize mistakes rather than through lecture-style tutoring. I believe that there is more value when we allow children to focus on the creative learning process rather than just achieving the end result. With my years of experience working with children, I often use math games to help keep my younger students engaged and excited about learning!
