About Derek
From Palm Springs, CA, Derek Chariton excelled in academics from a young age before pursuing writing, acting, and directing here in the city. Now, having a rebirth of academic interest, he is pursuing a degree in physical therapy to better directly help people in his life and community. Helping those who need it has always been a passion of his and is why math tutoring is so exciting. It is a joyous thing to watch a young person progress and learn they love a subject they previously thought was inaccessible to them.

I make learning fun and exciting by gamifying exercises and using real-world examples of how math can be useful and fun in day-to-day life. As a kid, I found myself uninterested in math until the right instructor came along and I realized it was one of my best subjects. I pride myself on showing kids how rewarding it feels to accomplish small problem-solving, gradually leading them up the ranks towards bigger problems as they gain ability and confidence.
