About Lesedi

I am a University of Cape Town (UCT) undergraduate student with a lifelong passion for academic growth. My own academic foundation is rooted in high performance, having matriculated with an 80%+ overall average and graduated from the Engen Maths and Science School with multiple awards for my achievements. Beyond the textbook, my critical thinking and strategic planning have been shaped as an alumnus of the prestigious GIBS Spirit of Youth Programme and through my background as a chess player -a sport that taught me to approach every setback with patience and foresight.

However, my academic path hasn't been a straight line of easy wins. I have been through my own fair share of academic struggles and failures. I know exactly what it feels like to have a single exam question completely stump you, or to hear an explanation five different times and still have it make absolutely no sense. That firsthand experience with frustration is exactly why I became a teacher.

Teaching and supporting others has been second nature to me from a very young age. I began providing informal academic support when I was just 10 years old, and I have spent the last six plus years actively helping students navigate and master STEM subjects. Today, I continue that work as a volunteer tutor with impactful initiatives like UCT TeachOut and the Young Africans Technology organisation.

When you work with me, you are getting a tutor who brings top-tier university insights, but more importantly, someone who understands the human element of learning. I don't judge when you get stuck. My goal is to give you the confidence, logic, and resilience you need to beat the frustration and reach your own academic goals.

About the lesson

My Methodology & What Makes Me Unique:

I believe a student should never finish a lesson feeling like they gained nothing. If you leave a session just as confused as when you started, that is a failure of the teaching, not the student.

Growing up, rote memorisation never worked for me. I couldn’t just accept "because that's the formula" as an answer, and I don't expect you to either. Because of this, I consider myself a bad teacher's worst nightmare. My approach is built on dismantling lazy, passive teaching. By leveraging my background in UCT Astrophysics and AI, I translate dry textbook definitions into real-world logic. I emphasise explaining concepts until they make complete, intuitive sense, giving you immediate, tangible value out of every single hour we spend together.
Language Proficiency

To make sure nothing gets lost in translation, comfort and clear communication are priorities in my lessons. I am fully fluent and able to teach in English, Sesotho, isiZulu, and isiXhosa. If you need a complex concept broken down in your home language to help it click, we can absolutely pivot to make you feel comfortable.
What to Expect in a Typical Lesson

Every session is structured to be active, engaging, and highly collaborative, rather than a dry, one-way lecture. We open by reviewing previous material or tackling specific homework problems and questions you ran into during the week. From there, we dive into the core topic using clear analogies and straightforward discussions to make the underlying theory easy to understand. Once the concept makes sense, we work through practical exam questions together. I guide you through the logic at first, stepping back as your confidence grows so you learn to solve them independently. Finally, we wrap up by summarising the main points of the day and setting a clear focus for what you can practise on your own before our next session.

Who These Lessons Are For:

My lessons are aimed at anyone looking to master STEM subjects (Mathematics, Calculus, Trigonometry, and Physical Sciences). I welcome students at all levels of proficiency:

The Absolute Beginner: If you don't know the first thing about the subject and feel completely left behind by classroom teachers, we will start from scratch and build your foundation step-by-step.

The Exam Prep Student: If you already have a decent grasp but need to fine-tune your problem-solving skills, learn exam strategies, and push your marks from average to excellent.

High School & University Undergraduates: From Grade 8–12 learners aiming for university acceptance, to first year university students tackling foundational calculus and physics modules.

This first lesson offered with Lesedi will allow you to get to know each other and clearly specify your needs for your next lessons.

Details

Online Lessons: R180 per hour. This is the lowest rate because it doesn't require any travel time or transport money. You can log on directly from your computer, making it the most affordable and flexible option for your budget.

In-Person at Your Home: R280 per hour total. This consists of the R230 base rate plus a flat R50 travel fee per session. The extra R50 is added specifically to cover the actual cost of transport and the time it takes to commute from campus to your house.
