About Izuchukwu
Hello! My name is Izu, and I am a graduate of UNC–Chapel Hill with a degree in Chemistry. I am also a registered pharmacy technician, which has given me experience applying scientific knowledge in a professional healthcare setting.
Through my education, I developed a strong background in undergraduate-level chemistry, physics, mathematics, and astronomy. I know that these subjects can become challenging quickly, especially when the material becomes more abstract or mathematically intensive. One of the main reasons I decided to teach is that I’ve seen how much of a difference the right explanation can make. A concept that seems impossible at first can often become manageable once it is broken down in a clear and logical way.
My goal is not simply to help students get the correct answer. I want to help you understand why the answer makes sense, how to approach similar problems in the future, and how to become more confident solving problems independently. I hope to pass along the knowledge, problem-solving strategies, and experience I gained throughout my chemistry degree and related coursework so that difficult material feels a little less intimidating—and hopefully even interesting.

My teaching style is built around one idea: understanding the process matters more than memorizing the answer. Whether we are working through Algebra, Calculus, Differential Equations, General Chemistry, Organic Chemistry, or Biochemistry, I focus on helping students recognize patterns, understand why a method works, and develop a repeatable approach they can use independently.
I especially try to avoid the “watch me solve it, then copy what I did” style of tutoring. Instead, I break difficult problems into smaller decisions: What information are we given? What are we being asked to find? What concept applies? Why does that equation or method make sense here? From there, we build the solution together. My goal is for you to eventually look at a new problem and know how to begin without needing someone beside you.
For mathematics, from Algebra through Differential Equations, I emphasize problem recognition and consistent setup. Many students struggle not because they cannot do the calculations, but because they are unsure which method to use. I teach you how to identify the structure of a problem first, then choose the appropriate technique. That could mean setting up systems of equations, analyzing functions, using derivatives and integrals, solving differential equations, or working through multi-step applications. I also like to show connections between topics so that mathematics feels like one developing system rather than a collection of unrelated formulas.
For chemistry, from General Chemistry through Biochemistry, I focus heavily on connecting equations and molecular concepts to what is physically happening. Instead of simply memorizing formulas for equilibrium, kinetics, thermodynamics, acid-base chemistry, or biochemical processes, we work on understanding what the variables actually represent and how changing one part of a system affects everything else. When possible, I use diagrams, reaction logic, dimensional analysis, and step-by-step reasoning to make complicated material more intuitive.
A typical lesson begins with a quick assessment of what you already understand and where the difficulty starts. We then review the minimum background needed for the topic before working through examples together. I normally demonstrate the reasoning behind one problem, guide you through another, and then have you attempt a similar problem more independently. As we work, I pay attention to where your reasoning breaks down, not just where the final answer becomes incorrect. That allows us to address the actual weakness instead of repeatedly correcting the same mistake.
I can also adapt sessions around what you currently need most. We can work through homework problems, review lecture material, prepare for an upcoming exam, rebuild foundations from earlier courses, or focus intensively on one difficult topic. If you have notes, practice exams, worksheets, or problems from your professor, bringing them to the session is extremely helpful because I can structure our work around the exact style and level of your course.
Most importantly, I do not expect every student to learn in the same way. If one explanation does not make sense, I will approach the concept from another direction rather than simply repeating it. My goal is not only to help you perform better on the next assignment or exam, but to leave you with stronger problem-solving habits and a clearer understanding of the material than you had when we started.
