About Ashlyn

Ashlyn Rockey is a second-year senior at Texas Tech University from Monte Vista, Colorado, pursuing a degree in Agricultural Leadership and Political Science with a double minor in Agricultural and Applied Economics and Agricultural Communications. Ashlyn took an unconventional route from high school to college by working for a non-profit organization for a gap year. During this year, she traveled over 45,000 miles across Colorado, speaking and facilitating to numerous high schools and middle schools and working for the Colorado State University Spur Campus; she has developed into the leader and advocate she is today.

About the lesson

My approach as a tutor is deeply rooted in student-centered learning, where I tailor my methods to meet the unique needs of each student. I employ active learning techniques, encouraging students to engage in discussions, problem-solving, and hands-on activities. By connecting lessons to real-world applications, especially in the context of agriculture leadership, economics, and communication, I help students see the relevance of their studies. Interactive tools and multimedia are integral to my teaching, making lessons both engaging and accessible. Continuous feedback is a cornerstone of my method, providing students with regular insights into their progress and areas needing improvement.

A typical lesson plan begins with a brief review of previous material and an outline of the day's objectives. This is followed by a warm-up activity to spark interest. The main instruction involves a mix of lectures, multimedia, and interactive discussions, using examples from my fields of expertise. Students then engage in practice activities, such as hands-on projects or group work, to apply their new knowledge. The lesson concludes with a review, a Q&A session, and an assignment to reinforce learning.

What sets me apart as a tutor is my specialized knowledge in agriculture leadership, economics, and communication, coupled with my leadership training experience. This unique combination allows me to teach both academic content and essential leadership skills. My background in education courses equips me with effective teaching strategies and classroom management skills. Furthermore, my adaptability enables me to adjust my teaching methods to suit different learning styles and needs.

My lessons are designed for high school students and younger learners who are studying subjects related to agriculture, economics, and communication. They are also suitable for aspiring leaders interested in developing their leadership skills, particularly within the context of rural and agricultural communities. By fostering an engaging and supportive learning environment, I aim to empower students with the knowledge and skills necessary for their academic and personal growth.
