Hi everyone! I'm Elizabeth, a Neuroscience student at Duke University ending my first year with a 3.96 GPA. At a liberal arts school, I have been equipped with skills in many subject areas such as General & Organic Chemistry, Calculus, Psychology and Writing. Achieving excellence and balance in my academic career has always been a focus; I scored a 780 on the Reading & Writing portion of the SAT and a 790 in the Math section. Music has also kept my education well-rounded; I was selected to receive piano lessons from an esteemed faculty member who has given me invaluable tools for improving piano performance.
During high school, I was a summer camp counselor for elementary students and a tutor for an 8th grade science class. These experiences, as well as studying for the SAT and college exams myself, have provided me with learning strategies tailored to each academic subject and age level. For example, maintaining active engagement is critical for teaching children new vocabulary. Preparing for the SAT math section requires practicing problems consistently and strategically focusing on difficult topics. In college organic chemistry, using a "narrative mindset" is key. Atoms and molecules are like "characters" with certain tendencies; these tendencies, the basic principles of Organic Chemistry, help students build a coherent and increasingly complex picture of the subject. Coupled with practice of essential skills, achieving an A is more than possible.
