About Francis
I want you to feel that a piece has an understandable shape, even when it contains unfamiliar notation. I explain ideas through the keyboard, the score, and the sound, rather than assuming one explanation will work for everyone. I encourage you to tell me when you can perform something but do not yet understand it.
I value comfortable movement and attentive listening. If a passage feels awkward, I help you examine fingering, grouping, and the size of the task before asking for more repetitions. I also want you to notice successful attempts, because identifying what changed makes an improvement easier to reproduce.
I aim to make feedback useful and proportionate. I choose priorities with you instead of correcting every detail at once, and I leave space for music that matters to you. My goal is to help you approach new pieces with a growing set of tools and a clearer idea of how to begin.

I help you find the musical structure inside a piece before treating every note as a separate instruction. We might sing the melody, identify a repeating bass pattern, or reduce a passage to its main chords. That gives you something to listen for when your hands begin putting the details together.
I build coordination in stages that preserve the phrase. A first-time player can balance a simple melody over a few bass notes; a returning student can rebuild comfortable movement and reading; a more advanced player can examine voicing, pedalling, or the direction of a longer line. We connect technical adjustments to a sound you can recognise.
I make practice concrete: isolate a useful section, choose one listening goal, and test whether the change survives when the surrounding music returns. Children may use stories, imitation, and short patterns; teenagers and adults may analyse a score or arrange a familiar song. I include reading, ear work, and keyboard exploration in a balance that suits your current goals.
