About Hannah

I am an experienced psychologist and researcher with a passion for tutoring and mentoring. On my own academic journey so far, I have completed a Bachelor in Psychological and Behavioural Sciences at the University of Cambridge, an MSc in Evidence-based Social Intervention and Policy Evaluation at the University of Oxford and an MSc in Clinical Child & Adolescent Psychology at Utrecht University.

Since my studies, I have worked as a psychologist, evaluator and researcher on various psychosocial projects. Alongside this work, I have provided tutoring, coaching and mentorship for students of different ages and various cultural backgrounds. My tutoring approach is informed by my own studies (which I finished with top marks), my work experiences and my own learnings in managing the often very challenging demands of life and studying.

I look forward to meeting you and exploring together how I can best support you!

  • When did you develop an interest in your chosen field and in private tutoring?

I developed an interest in psychology quite early on in my life. As a child, I was very shy but I loved watching the adults and children around me and thinking about the motivations and meanings behind their actions. This initial interest turned into a deeper passion for psychology, which led me to pursue my studies at Cambridge, Oxford and Utrecht. I have been working as a teacher, tutor and mentor in paid and voluntary settings internationally since 2015.
  • Tell us more about the subject you teach, the topics you like to discuss with students (and possibly those you like a little less).

Even though I have been studying and teaching psychology for many years now, I still feel as passionate about the subject as I did back when I first started learning about it. I love the fact that psychology touches on a broad spectrum of topic areas, ranging from statistics to philosophy, neurobiology, sociology, and more. I particularly enjoy discussing conceptual ideas with students and supporting them in effectively managing their processes for learning.
  • Did you have any role models; a teacher that inspired you?

I have been lucky to have had many inspiring teachers, supervisors and role models in the academic and professional contexts I have worked in so far. In particular, I remember several teachers at secondary school who really believed in me and helped me develop my strengths to such an extent that I was able to thrive and reach my academic goals while also enjoying the learning process. I was also fortunate to meet excellent colleagues and supervisors through my jobs who are still role models for me.
  • What do you think are the qualities required to be a good tutor?

I think key qualities for a good tutor are curiosity, empathy, a love for learning, flexibility, reliability and in-depth knowledge. Being patient, non-judgmental and having a good sense of humour are really important too in my opinion 
  • Provide a valuable anecdote related to your subject or your days at school.

One of my key beliefs resulting from my own journey in school and with psychology is that every person has valuable talents, strengths and resources that they will be able to access if provided with a supportive environment for growth. Having been very shy and anxious myself as a child, I never would have imagined that I would later on move to different countries by myself and complete my studies at the most prestigious universities in the world. This experience motivates me to create a supportive environment for others with the goal of helping each of my students thrive in their own way.
  • What were the difficulties or challenges you faced or are still facing in your subject?

Because psychology includes such a broad range of topic areas, it can be challenging to stay up-to-date and knowledgeable about every area.
  • Do you have a particular passion? Is it teaching in general or an element of the subject or something completely different?

I am deeply passionate about learning, personal growth and empowering others on their journeys, be it through my work as a tutor, researcher, evaluator, crisis counsellor or psychologist
  • What makes you a Superprof (besides answering these interview questions)?

I believe that I am a very enthusiastic, empathic, flexible and knowledgeable tutor. Most importantly, I genuinely enjoy and feel passionate about supporting students on their journeys. At the same time, I am always looking to learn more and improve my own tutoring style as I firmly believe in lifelong learning. I warmly encourage students to get in touch, share any questions and explore together whether my tutoring sessions could be a great fit for their current needs.
