About Anne

I hold a PhD in biomedical research with a focus on physiology, and I currently teach college-level biology as a university instructor. Over the past decade, I have taught human anatomy and physiology, cell biology, general biology, immunology, and histology, and I have designed college courses from the ground up — so I understand not just the material, but how these courses are structured, assessed, and where students tend to struggle.

My background is both academic and research-based. I completed postdoctoral training in nephrology and cardiovascular physiology; my work has been published in peer-reviewed scientific journals, and I serve on the editorial board of a physiology research journal. That means the guidance you receive is grounded in current, accurate science and explained clearly, without jargon.

Just as important to me is how I work with students. I have taught and mentored first-generation, non-traditional, and pre-health students, several of whom have gone on to graduate and professional programs. I am patient, organized, and responsive, and I treat every session as a professional commitment — prepared, focused, and centered on your goals. My aim is simple: to help you genuinely understand the material and build the confidence to succeed on your own.

I'm a university biology instructor with a PhD in biomedical research and a focus on physiology, and I teach the way I wish these subjects had been taught to me: by connecting structure to function so the material actually makes sense instead of becoming something to memorize and forget. I've taught human anatomy and physiology, cell biology, general biology, immunology, and histology at the college level, and I've guided many students through the parts of these courses that most often trip people up.

My approach
I build lessons around understanding, not rote recall. We start from the "why" — why a nephron is shaped the way it is, why a membrane behaves the way it does — and use diagrams, analogies, and real clinical or experimental examples to anchor it. I lean on active recall and problem-solving rather than passive review, because that's what holds up on exam day.

A typical lesson.
I begin by finding out exactly where you're stuck or what's coming up. We work through the concept together, then apply it to a practice problem or a real scenario, and I check your understanding by having you explain it back to me. You leave with a clear next step and targeted practice, so each session builds on the last.

What sets me apart.
I'm not only a tutor — I'm a working college professor and published physiologist who has designed courses from the ground up. I've worked extensively with first-generation, non-traditional, and pre-health students, and I'm skilled at translating complex science into plain, usable understanding.

Who this is for.
College and pre-college students in anatomy and physiology, biology, cell biology, immunology, and histology; nursing and allied-health students; and pre-med, pre-dental, and pre-health students preparing for the MCAT or DAT.
