About Gideon

Hey, I’m a musician from El Paso, Texas, and a student at NMSU. I picked up the guitar four years ago, and it completely changed my life—I’ve been hooked ever since. Whether it’s bass, electric, or acoustic, I love helping others find that same excitement in playing. My lessons are all about making music fun and accessible, no matter your skill level. About the lesson

Teaching Method:

My teaching style is very flexible, I'm not strict on how the lessons should be and will easily adjust my teaching to fit your level/accommodations. However, I do believe that everyone's first lesson should be structured so I can appropriately gauge you as a player. Below I've listed the first lesson you would follow and help me identify your strengths and weaknesses.

Lesson Plan: Beginner Bass Guitar (First Lesson):

Objective:

By the end of the lesson, the student will understand basic bass techniques, be able to play a simple bassline, and feel comfortable holding and playing the instrument.

1. Introduction (5 min)

Briefly introduce yourself and your experience.
Ask the student about their musical background, goals, and favorite genres.

2. Understanding the Bass Guitar (10 min)

a. Parts of the bass: headstock, tuners, neck, frets, strings, pickups, and bridge.

b. String names and numbers (E - A - D - G).

c. How to properly hold the bass while sitting and standing.

3. Basic Technique (15 min)

a. Left Hand: Finger placement, fretting notes, and avoiding buzz.

b. Right Hand: alternating fingers vs. pick playing

c. Basic Muting: Avoiding unwanted string noise.

4. Playing the First Notes (15 min)

Learn and play open strings with proper plucking technique.
Introduce fretting
Play a simple one-string exercise to develop coordination.

5. Basic Bassline (20 min)
Introduce a simple 4-note bassline (e.g., classic blues or rock groove).
Play along with a slow metronome or backing track.
Focus on even timing and clean tone.

6. Wrapping Up & Next Steps (5 min)

Recap key points from the lesson.
Assign practice:
Warm-up exercises (open strings & fretted notes).
Play the 4-note bassline daily.
Discuss what they want to learn next (favorite songs, styles, techniques).
Answer any questions and encourage consistent practice.

Total Time: 60 Minutes
