About Louisa
My passion for making learning engaging and accessible, led to my founding of ChessLingo—an initiative that combines my love for chess and languages to foster cognitive development, strategic thinking, and cross-cultural learning in children and youth. Equipped with scientific knowledge, I have strong observational skills and flexibility to adapt my teaching style and curriculum to work with students from different cultural backgrounds and needs. I believe that learning is supported through intrinsic motivation and a growth mindset. The best way for knowledge to stick is by having fun and real-life applications. My vision is for my students to become independent learners and be able to improve their own study plan according to their strengths and weaknesses. With 6 years of teaching experience across McGill University affiliated programs and online platforms, I've guided over 1000 students to success, earning 217+ 5-star reviews on Outschool. I founded the ChessLingo academy to share my passion and support young learners. See my website chesslingo org. I specialise in helping beginner and intermediate chess players (especially kids) build a strong foundation and strategic thinking with patient, engaging guidance. As a former competitive player who represented Canada in the World Youth Championship, I love sharing my passion for the game. For serious players, I've partnered with Olivier Kenta, an International Chess Master to develop advanced curricula. My approach is informed by my ongoing research in child development, aimed at making online learning truly engaging, fun and effective.

I am a graduate from McGill in Psychology and a former competitive chess player who represented Canada in international chess tournaments. In collaboration with Olivier, an International Master, we offer tailored private lessons. We start the first lesson by evaluating the chess level of the student and learning goals to create a personalised study plan. My teaching philosophy is rooted in my background in child development and education research, emphasising a student-centred, engaging, and highly personalised approach. I believe that true learning flourishes when students feel understood, supported, and challenged in a positive environment. My goal is not just to impart knowledge, but to ignite curiosity, build problem-solving skills, and nurture intrinsic motivation to foster a lifelong love for learning.
