About Lily
Lily has a general love and talent for communication through music and language. While she is a passionate teacher of Music Styles, Music Theory and French, she is primarily an aspiring Operatic Performer, currently in her second year at the Melbourne Conservatorium and studies Italian and French alongside singing. For four years she studied classical voice, musicianship, conducting, composition, music theory and music styles at the Victorian College of the Arts Secondary School, learning from Australia’s leading musicianship teacher Jenny Gillan. In 2020 she graduated the Victorian Collage of the Arts Secondary School as Music Captain with an ATAR of 98.3, and had her Music Styles composition ‘Quasi Modo’ performed in Top Acts. She continues to compose in her own time and is always on the lookout for new projects and ideas, which comes out in her love for Music Styles, and can be infectious for her students.

Music Styles can be a strange subject to navigate- at times it is like learning a different language. I am passionate about finding ways to communicate music analysis that are not only clearer and more helpful, but that will foster an understanding and appreciation for music capable of serving students beyond high school. Drawing on techniques and pedagogy from Jenny Gillan’s ‘Listening Beyond Hearing’, I focus on organising the many aspects of the subject into easy, visualised chunks to memorise through repetition and practice. My students also benefit from the first-hand experience I offer, as someone who studied the subject for four years, and topped the state in 2020 with a raw study score of 49. I have been tutoring now for a year and a half, mainly for students in year 11 and 12. Lessons will typically go for 40 mins to an hour but I’m flexible:)
