About Peer

Hi, my name is Peer Khan! I am currently a student at Georgetown University's Walsh School of Foreign Service in Washington, DC. I am majoring in International Economics with minors in Statistics and Computer Science.

Over the past 2 years, I have successfully tutored over 50+ students in SAT/ACT prep, including in both mathematics and reading.

The first time I took the SAT, I scored a 1360. I freaked out, and did not know if I could get into many of the target schools I had hoped for. However, with persistent practice and a deep understanding of the tricks of the test, I was able to score a 1520 SAT, along with a 35 on the ACT. With rigorous preparation, I can help you along that same journey and get you to the score you need.

About the lesson

Note: All classes are held via Google Meet, and are generally one-on-one sessions.

I'll be honest, the SAT and ACT are weird tests. They test knowledge that every high school student should know, but do it in cryptic ways that are difficult to dissect. Not everyone can be allowed to score 1500+, so the College Board uses a series of tricks that lead to common mistakes. However, with enough practice and patience, I can help you improve your score and crack this test.

My teaching philosophy has three essential elements: first, lessons will consist of drilling into the Why? Why did you make this arithmetic mistake or fail to understand a passage? We'll go beyond the surface-level answers of "I didn't read it properly", and really understand WHY you missed a question. Was it an incorrect reading approach or a fundamental misunderstanding in content? Together, we'll find out. Only once you understand this can you actually improve your weaknesses.

Next, we'll practice your weak areas, and continually solve practice problems. I'll outline the exact approach needed to solve a math problem, and we'll find the best personalized strategies for reading passages. Your time is limited, and I'll make sure your effort is maximized focusing heavily on your weakest areas.

Finally, and perhaps most importantly, we must eliminate careless mistakes. The SAT is known to employ common tricks to get students to miss easy questions. Often, the key to fixing these is to be able to recognize these types of questions, and understand at a deeper level what the test is really asking.

Our sessions will involve various combinations of these elements, and outside practice will be KEY to ensure concepts are fully understood.
