I am a well-qualified and very experienced teacher and tutor. I have been teaching in secondary, primary and special schools both independent and state funded for almost 40 years.

I can help with GCSE and A Level listening papers as well as coursework*. I have taught the syllabi from most examination boards and I am an examiner for Edexcel GCSE and A level music.

I have taught from beginner to grade viii on woodwind instruments and have expertise in teaching talented, nervous and/or neurodiverse pupils.

Working in a primary school, I can offer KS 1+2 maths and other subjects by request; as well as music from early years to A Level.

As a player I play professionally and at a high amateur level. I have been part of some very exciting performances during my career and have played at some amazing venues, including St John’s, Smith Square London, Symphony Hall Birmingham and concert halls in Hong Kong, Latvia and Vienna. I play in orchestras, symphonic wind orchestras and shows as an oboist and cor Anglais player. I am also a conductor and have been musical director of school productions of “Les Misérables”, “We Will Rock You” and “Joseph and his Amazing Technicolour Dreamcoat”. Most recently I have been the interim conductor of the Hertfordshire Concert Band.

In my spare time I love the outdoors. I am a qualified sailor, I hold the RYA Level 2 qualification which I attained at Draycote Water, Warwickshire. I also hold the RYA Level 2 Powerboat qualification. I am also learning how to navigate for car rallies and hope eventually to take part in some international events. My partner and I regularly walk through Hertfordshire with a dog walking group and I have cycled from London to Paris to raise money for charity. I also hold the Level 2 Exercise to Music Qualification which makes me a qualified aerobics instructor.

About the lesson

My lessons are always kind and fun. I have helped individual pupils to perform and get some great exam results, often when they didn't believe they could.

I like to find creative ways of teaching which often involve getting outside in the fresh air. I also use singing and music to enhance learning of other subjects.

Details

I won't be the cheapest but I am very experienced and have been doing this for a long time. I love teaching music and I think this is something which will be evident within a few lessons. There is often much laughter and creative ways of guiding understanding. I have many students who have stayed with me from beginner to the higher grades on instruments.
