About Peng

I am Will, and I have 20 years of working experience in the media and cultural entertainment industry in China. I have published nearly 500,000 words of articles (interviews, comments, etc.) and produced over 100 episodes of video programmes (interviews, documentaries, etc.). Currently, I am the Deputy Secretary General of the Music Industry Professional Committee of the Chinese Culture Promotion Association, and the Fellowship of Pop Music Society of Chinese Musicians Association. I take this as my lifelong mission: to promote the cross-cultural communication between Chinese and other cultures, and help more friends understand or even fall in love with Chinese culture. Therefore, at the age of 41, I became a student again and started to pursue a PhD in media and cultural Studies at UoG University in the UK. I also hope that friends who are interested in Chinese culture can receive effective and enthusiastic feedback. So I am here with the wish of helping them improve Chinese language skills and enhance their understanding of Chinese culture.

About the lesson

Language of instruction: Mandarin Chinese. I hope our courses are like those of movie narratives or interview programmes, where we have a specific mission and 'take action together' to complete tasks, rather than simply asking and answering, transmitting and receiving. For example, I have a wide range of hobbies, such as football, film, music, travel, and culture. At the same time, I am very interested in cross-cultural communication. So my teaching will demonstrate three main characteristics: First, customised teaching. I tend to adopt different methods/materials, based on the differences in Chinese usage purposes, scenes, goals and current abilities. Second, combing the language and culture. I will provide rich knowledge and materials on Chinese culture and help to understand the exact context, rather than just using Chinese as a language tool. Third, making the learning more interesting. For example, as extracurricular materials, I will share Chinese movies, TV dramas, music, and other information closely related to teaching, to enhance the fun of learning Chinese.
