About Ben
As a marine scientist I am passionate, not only about the environment, but all fields of science and technology. I believe empowering the younger generation to gain knowledge in these fields is critical to creating a better future here on planet earth.
Science can take you many places and for me this has been focused around the ocean. From diving with great whites in remote areas such as Fiordland to having my head in the mouths of sea lions in Stewart Island, I have been lucky enough to have many "once in a lifetime" experiences in just the space of a few years. This all stemmed from a solid foundation in science during school. I hope that the stories I share and examples I show will help in fostering a strong foundation for the up and coming scientists of the future.

My previous teaching experience ranges from giving guest lectures to university students to working closely with secondary school students in smaller, more focused science projects.
My lessons are tailored to how you learn best, with a big focus on active recall—a proven way to improve memory and understanding. For science subjects like Biology, we’ll create and review flashcards to lock in key concepts. I’ll also break down challenging topics with relatable analogies and step-by-step explanations. Then we’ll pull it all together with practice questions and past papers, so you know how to apply what you've learned!
Lessons will primarily focus on secondary school one-on-one tutoring sessions but am happy to increase this to classroom sessions if the demand requires it. University level tutoring is also available at request.
