About Hal
Gentle guidance defines my approach to the piano as you navigate complex musical textures. My 13 years of experience in San Francisco combine conservatory discipline with supportive technical feedback. You will find that I emphasize rhythm, timing, and hand independence across every session.
I earned my Bachelor of Music in Piano Performance from Oberlin Conservatory. Whether we work on grade exam prep for ABRSM or explore jazz improvisation, the goal is clarity. Feel free to reach out if you would like to discuss your musical interests.

Sitting down at the bench for our first meeting involves identifying your specific hand position and posture needs immediately. We integrate ear training and scales alongside memorisation techniques to build a solid foundation.
You might be surprised how Prokofiev or Ligeti feels under your fingers once the mechanics are settled. My 13 years of experience allow me to demystify 20th century repertoire for students of all ages. We will use sight playing and music theory to ensure you truly understand the language of the notes.
