About Willa
Helping 490 students find their footing is a core part of my identity. I started this journey as a self-taught player immersed in the bluegrass scene for 13 years. Many advanced learners and hobbyists come to me because they struggle with specific blocks in their theory or technique. I break down songwriting, modes, and lead guitar into manageable, logical segments.
Sometimes, the simplest strumming pattern holds the secret to a better sound. My degree consists of 13 years of festival performance across the American South. This background keeps my teaching grounded in real-world application.
I enjoy seeing returning learners re-engage with music after long breaks. Let me know what you want to achieve.

You should expect a diagnostic skills check before building the lesson plan to ensure we target your actual needs. I evaluate your current knowledge of rhythm guitar and music theory during this initial stage. Reading tabs and ear training become much easier when you understand the underlying patterns.
My self-taught background allows me to simplify complex ideas into concepts you can actually use. We work on scales and modes without getting lost in academic jargon. You might notice that I favor a conversational pace that mimics how I learned to play at festivals. It feels like two people sitting on a porch trading musical ideas.
Nothing feels forced or overly formal during our time together. We just play.
