About Mia

I am a piano tutor with over 10 years of teaching experience. I work with students of all levels, from complete beginners to advanced players. I have successfully taught between 200 and 250 students. Many of my students have cleared graded exams with distinction, performed in recitals and competitions, and developed a deep and lasting love for music. My teaching philosophy is centered on real-life application, creativity, and integrity. I believe that learning piano should be practical and enjoyable. I use examples from professional performances to explain concepts and techniques. I encourage students to interpret pieces in their own way and explore improvisation. I am honest about progress and set realistic goals. I focus on building strong technique, sight-reading, music theory, and ear training. I also teach expression, phrasing, and stage presence to make performances musical and confident. I am patient and supportive. I celebrate every achievement and guide students through challenges with care. I am proud of my students' growth and their confidence at the keyboard. My goal is to inspire a lifelong love for piano.

My teaching approach is based on three core values: real-life examples and case studies, creativity, and integrity. I believe that learning piano is not just about playing notes. It is about understanding music, expressing emotion, and building a lasting connection with the instrument. My goal is to produce pianists who are technically skilled, musically aware, and confident in their abilities. Real-life examples and case studies are a big part of my teaching. I do not teach in isolation. I show my students how professional pianists approach pieces. I use recordings and videos to demonstrate phrasing, touch, and interpretation. I share stories from my own journey and from past students to make lessons practical. When a student faces a challenging piece or technique, I refer to similar cases and show how others overcame it. This makes learning more relatable and less intimidating. Creativity is encouraged in every lesson. I do not want my students to just reproduce what is on the page. I teach them how to interpret music in their own way. I encourage them to experiment with dynamics, articulation, and tempo. I also introduce improvisation and composition exercises. This helps them think outside the box and develop their own musical voice. Integrity is central to my teaching. I am honest about progress. I give clear feedback, both positive and constructive. I never pretend that a student is ready for something they are not. I also respect their time and effort. I set realistic expectations and explain the reason behind every exercise. This builds trust and keeps the learning process transparent.

My methodology covers a wide range of piano subjects. Technique is a major focus. I teach proper posture, hand position, finger strength, and articulation. I use scales, arpeggios, and Czerny exercises to build control and evenness. Sight-reading is developed through regular practice. I use graded materials to help students recognize notes, rhythms, and patterns quickly. Music theory is integrated into every lesson. I teach note reading, intervals, chords, key signatures, and harmonic analysis. I show how theory applies directly to the music they play. This deepens their understanding and helps them learn faster. Ear training is included to build listening skills. I use interval recognition, chord identification, and rhythmic dictation. This helps students develop relative pitch and play with better accuracy. Repertoire is chosen to match each student's level and taste. I guide them through classical, jazz, pop, blues, and contemporary pieces. I teach phrasing, dynamics, and expression to make performances engaging.

Improvisation and composition are offered for students who want to explore creativity. I teach basic chord progressions and scale patterns to help them create their own melodies and accompaniments. Sight-playing and lead sheet reading are also taught. These are practical skills for playing in bands or accompanying singers. I teach how to read chord symbols and build arrangements from simple charts. Each lesson is structured but flexible. We start with warm-ups and technical exercises. Then we work on sight-reading and theory. The main part focuses on repertoire and applying techniques. I end with a review and a clear practice plan for the week. I use recordings and playback to help students hear their progress objectively. I assess regularly and adjust goals as needed. My ultimate aim is to develop pianists who are not just good players but also thoughtful, expressive musicians who enjoy their craft and continue growing.
