About Nathan

I have academic as well as personal experience working with and teaching kids, being the writer and editor on my high school and college newspapers. I have also worked with kids as a private coach for my school’s esports team, so I understand how to navigate both an academic setting as well as the often personal and delicate nature of helping youth one-on-one.

I am very comfortable at giving feedback in an understanding way, from my background as an editor in journalism. But my goal is to give students the skills to not need a tutor. We will talk through mistakes and understand them as lessons for the future, not just past problems. Writing can be intimidating for many and I hope to ease the worry that may come with big essays and formal writing assessment.

About the lesson

I teach weekly lessons on Zoom or FaceTime to build reading and writing skills, and will work closely with students on both school assignments as well as test prep/college application prep.

Will work one-on-one, to improve academic and creative writing, proofread essays, and build crucial reading and writing skills that will be tested by the SAT/ACT and AP Exams. This includes but is not limited to: going over assigned readings together to build a better understanding; talking through and helping to build outlines for assignments and papers; reading over rough drafts with helpful and thorough critique; proofreading final products; and any other work that would be required to ensure the student is excelling in their English classes as much as possible.

Lessons are geared towards students K-12, but am especially skilled in test/essay prep, college readiness, preparing for the SAT/AP exams, and college admissions essays.

A typical lesson would consist of going over their assigned readings/writing, building a plan to tackle the assignment in a reasonable timeframe and working with them closely as they progress through each step of academic writing: thesis building, gathering evidence, outline crafting, writing, editing, and putting it all together
