About Emma
Hi there! I'm Emcat and I'm a 27 year old Chicago transplant. I'm someone who thrives on creativity and I always have at least 20 different ongoing craft projects. I love critical thinking and analysis, especially when applied to different sources of media. Some of my favorite analysis subjects are the Hunger Games trilogy, anime shows such as The Apothecary Diaries or Attack on Titan, and shows like White Lotus or Game of Thrones. I'm the daughter of a gifted education specialist, so I've always been encouraged to think outside the box. As a teacher in my own right, my ultimate goal is for my students to leave not only feeling educated on the subject matter but with a better understanding of who they are and how they learn. Remember, tutoring is about me giving you a safe space so that you can feel comfortable enough to voice your needs and learn your own brain.

For starters, I am adamantly against AI and it will not have a place in my tutoring sessions. I'm a big believer in catering my teaching to whichever student I'm working with. It's important to pay attention to how a student learns and what retention methods work best for them. I like to start by getting to know my students a bit, learning their goals and their anxieties so I can figure out what to focus on. After that, we work together to set reasonable long and short term goals and create actionable steps to take in order to get a successful outcome. I am all for thinking outside the box to help a student retain information, so there will most likely be some experimentation to see what retention methods work best. As someone with ADHD, I strive to be the teacher I wish I had in my corner. I am especially passionate about giving neurodivergent students a space to feel accepted and fail comfortably so they can work out their learning style in a safe, judgment-free zone. I work best with grades 6-8, however my skills would also be useful working with high schoolers. I am open to teaching all grade 6-8 subject matter, but for high schoolers my skills are best utilized teaching English and adjacent subjects.
