Here’s a brief overview of sketching methods you can share with your students:
Gesture Drawing: Focus on quick, fluid lines to capture movement and energy.
Contour Drawing: Draw the outlines of subjects to improve observation skills.
Blind Contour: Draw without looking at the paper to strengthen focus and perception.
Value Sketching: Use shading to add depth and realism.
Cross-Hatching: Use intersecting lines to create texture and shading.
Thumbnail Sketching: Small sketches for experimenting with composition before committing.
Mapping & Underdrawing: Rough outlines help ensure correct proportions and structure.
Mixed Media: Combine different materials (pencil, ink, etc.) to add creativity and texture.
Perspective Drawing: Understand and use perspective to create depth in scenes.
