About Sallie
I’m Sallie, I’m a private art tutor and illustrator based in Newport, Shropshire. When I’m not teaching, I create hand-painted watercolour commissions for customers. I love working with kids and young people of all ages - lessons are fun (not like school art lessons!), we have music on and the student leads the lessons with their interests, whilst I love teaching new skills and techniques which incorporate the things they love most in life. No two lessons are the same, I do one-to-one lessons (rather than group workshops) because they are aimed at the individual and tailored towards their likes and dislikes. I've been an art tutor for almost ten years and love it more every single day. My students describe me as: friendly, weird (!), resilient, accommodating, accepting, encouraging, a superstar, supportive, kind, funny and creative.

My art lessons consist of everything arty! Students can learn watercolours, acrylics, pencil sketching, shading techniques, sketchbook tips, charcoal techniques, experiment with clay, create storybook illustration, work on storyboards, digital art, still life drawing, character creation, crayon and pastel experimentation - the possibilities are endless! I have volunteered and worked in both primary schools and nurseries, and I am very confident with teaching and instructing, as well as offering support and guidance. I am very friendly and approachable, yet deal with students in a professional manner. In addition to this, I am patient, understanding, enthusiastic, proactive and organised - and this will be evident in my tutoring. My lessons are student-led, fun and flexible. I currently work with children aged from five up to 19, I also offer more structured tutoring for young people to assist them through their GCSEs and A-Levels. I am fully DBS checked (February 2023)

Perfect! Sallie is not just knowledgable in art, but she ensures her lessons to be both informative and enjoyable.
My daughter simply loves Sallie’s lessons. I sincerely can not recommend Sallie more.- It was so wonderful to meet and work with your daughter! She’s incredibly talented and got a lot of potential. She easily understood the instructions I was giving, and was super open when she was discussing her art and abilities. Your daughter expressed that she loves working with crayons and pencils but is less keen on painting, so we will focus initially on her favourite materials but I’m keen to branch out into using different paints too. Well done, I’m so proud!See the response Sallie :
Perfect! Fab first lesson, I had so much fun.
- Anwen is so passionate about art and creativity! She has a huge interest in history too, especially art and fashion, and has considered studying history of art. Anwen loves acrylic paints and creating texture, It would be wonderful for Anwen to do this on a canvas with a palette knife. I feel she may love oils too! Anwen is really intelligent, conscientious and driven, and it was an absolute joy to meet and work with her this morning.See the response Sallie :

My daughter has only recently starting lessons with Sallie but she thoroughly enjoys them, she counts down till the days till it’s her turn to go! Sophie isn’t overly confident with new people but she took to Sallie straight away. It’s so lovely to see and hear all the things she has learnt and created. I couldn’t recommend Sallie highly enough, she’s amazing!
We strongly recommend Sallie. She is very knowledgeable, kind and patient. Yasmin is always looking forward to her lesson each time. Thank you so much for all the support.
Sallie has tutored my daughter for about 5 years now, and I honestly can't recommend her highly enough, she's absolutely fantastic and so talented. My daughter passed her GCSE Art with an A thanks in huge part to Sallie's tutoring, and now she is studying A Level Fine Art Sallie is still providing knowledge, advice, encouragement and support. Sallie is very kind, patient, personable and a valuable part of my daughter's continued education. My daughter has always looked forward to her weekly tutoring sessions and I know we absolutely fell on our feet when we were lucky enough to find Sallie.
Highly recommend Sallie. She is very good with kids. My daughter loves her weekly lesson with Sallie so much that she said “I would never ever miss one single lesson!” ️
Sallie is a natural nurturer and her teaching explores all areas of art and creativity.
She works with students of all school ages and offers a wide variety of media in a light and airy studio, or for virtual lessons.
The trust that she gains with her students allows them to talk about their personal lives openly without judgement to a caring listener. She offers such attention and care to every student.
I’ve watched Sallie’s creative journey her whole life as I’m her sister, her being a one to one art teacher is perfect for her!Sallie has been tutoring our son for over 6 years and that lesson is the highlight of his week. They explore all sorts of artistic styles, contextual references and material which has resulted in a wide range of artworks including digital art. As well as this practical tutoring Sallie is so trusted and easy to talk to that her role has developed into that of mentor and inspiration. I would highly recommend Sallie to the Superprof community.
Talented, creative, honest, humble and my two girls adore her. They have had lessons for over five years now and their progression and happiness is sky high xx
