About Maya
Hi! I’m Maya, a student at the University of Texas at Austin studying Sociology while completing the pre-health curriculum. I have a 3.95 GPA and have completed extensive college-level coursework across biology, general chemistry, organic chemistry, physics, and other pre-health sciences.
At UT, I’m also a Biology Peer Mentor and Undergraduate Course Assistant, where I work directly with students in biology laboratory courses and help them reason through scientific concepts. Outside of teaching, I have experience in medical research and clinical settings and am EMT certified.
Going through challenging science courses myself has taught me that doing well is about more than memorizing information. I’ve learned how to take complicated material, figure out what actually matters, and organize it in a way that makes sense. I really enjoy helping other students reach that same point where a topic finally clicks.

I tutor biology, general chemistry, organic chemistry, physics, and biochemistry, with lessons tailored to the way each student learns best. I know these subjects can feel overwhelming when there are so many equations, mechanisms, pathways, and concepts to keep straight, so I focus on making complicated material feel much more manageable.
During lessons, I break concepts into smaller steps and use diagrams, practice problems, guided questions, and patterns or shortcuts when they are helpful. Rather than simply giving an answer, I want students to understand how to approach a problem so they can solve similar questions independently.
Sessions can focus on learning new material, reviewing difficult concepts, working through practice problems, homework help, or exam preparation. I’m happy to work with high school students as well as undergraduate students taking introductory science courses.
