About Amalia

I have a degree in elementary education and middle level social studies. I taught in a Spanish immersion school and have taught in none profits and afterschool settings. I have taught every age from 3 through college. In the pre primary and primary grades I taught your traditional subjects (reading, writing, math and history), in middle school I taught social studies and in high school and college I teach the bible as a Bible study teacher and seminarian.

About the lesson

How I approach a student carries for each one but it all starts by observation and building trust. After all we are going on a journey together and my hope is to help my students reach their fullest potential. Below I delve into the technical and the education theory but practically I want people to love learning. And I want everyone to learn that they are capable and amazing and the way I can help them get there is by helping them learn they are capable academics. I can help them unlock their own potential.

The technical: I use backwards design in my approach. I begin by determining where we want to get to. Then by observing where you are I construct a bridge to get us there. This bridge uses the theory of multiple intelligences as well as flow theory. The first of which suggests there are ways in which we all learn best and the second proposes there is a sweet spot between no learning and frustration that real learning happens. My endeavour is to keep my students in their sweet spot as much as possible while also equipping them to adapt and become more resilient learners.
