About Anika

After graduating university in the United States, I became certified by the official International TEFL Academy to teach English as a foreign language. Since then, I have lived in many different countries around the world, sharing my love of language with aspiring English speakers. Having taught in a wide variety of cultures and settings, I have gained extensive experience teaching students of diverse backgrounds, ages, and levels.

Not only am I a passionate linguist and teacher, but also a fellow student of foreign language. I am bilingual, with English as my first language, and Spanish as my second. I am currently taking courses in French as well! Therefore, I have a very intimate understanding of what it is like to learn a new language, which offers me a unique perspective as your instructor. In this way, I am able to sympathize with you in ways that most EFL instructors cannot.

I believe that language is one of the most powerful forces in this world. It expands our minds, and enables us to connect with one another. Fluency in English can open many doors in this world. Ultimately, my job is to empower you!

My students often describe me as caring, personal, and thorough. I will always aim to curate a fun and productive learning atmosphere for you. Please feel welcome to reach out anytime. Together, we can accomplish anything!

About the lesson

I offer both private and group EFL classes, both online and in person. My goal as your teacher is to give you confidence as a non-native English speaker. My classes offer an stress-free, immersive environment in which you can improve your speaking, writing, listening, and reading skills. I want to offer you a well-rounded understanding of English.

In my class, you will be exposed to the essential domains of language: phonology (pronunciation), morphology (word structure) syntax (grammar/sentence structure), semantics (vocabulary), and pragmatics (cultural/social applications). If these look unfamiliar to you, no worries! We will approach these concepts together, at your own pace.

One of my favorite parts of teaching is developing personalized curriculums and lesson plans for my students. I will spend our first few sessions together analyzing your specific needs. Then, I will use this analysis to create lessons (and homework assignments, upon request) that address those needs.

I recognize that there are many learning styles out there, and I want to cater to yours! Learning a new language can be scary and uncomfortable. I want to facilitate the process for you by providing a safe space to practice and ask questions. My utmost priority is that you enjoy my class. I believe that we learn most effectively when we are having fun!
