About Amara

Hi, I’m Amara, but you can call me Jane!

I studied Biochemistry for my undergraduate degree, and I’m currently doing my Master’s in Health and Life Sciences at Birmingham City University.

But the main thing I want you to know about me is that I genuinely love teaching.

My goal is to do a PhD and eventually become a lecturer, so teaching isn’t just something I’m doing on the side. It’s something I'm passionate about and see myself doing for a very long time.

One of my favourite ways to study was to explain what I learned to my friends. I always felt that if I could take a difficult topic and explain it in a way someone else could easily understand, then I truly understood it myself.

And that’s exactly how I’ll teach you. If something feels confusing, we’ll slow it down.
We’ll break it into smaller pieces and go through it together until it makes sense to you.

I’ve also had the opportunity to create and teach an online course that now has over 5,000 registered students. That experience taught me something really important - everyone learns differently.

So if I explain something one way and you don’t understand it, that’s completely fine. Ask me again and again.

I’ll happily find a sixth way to explain it to you.

You never have to feel embarrassed about saying, “Jane, I still don’t get it.”

And when you finally say: “Ohhh, now I get it!” That moment is what I love most about teaching.

So when you learn with me, I'd be extremely patient with you, explain in the simplest way possible, and you can ask as many questions as you need to.

My job isn’t just to teach you the topic it is to make sure you actually understand it.

About the lesson

Before I start teaching you, I want to understand you first. What do you enjoy? What do you struggle with? And what are those topics that make you look at the page and think, “I have absolutely no idea what’s going on here”?

That’s where we’ll start. I’ll break things down for you, use examples you can actually relate to, and if my first explanation doesn’t make sense, I’ll try another one. You’ll never have to pretend you understand something just so we can move on.

We’ll also do plenty of practice questions together, because I don’t just want you to know the answer - I want you to understand why it’s the answer.

And whenever we can, I’ll get you a little ahead of your class. There’s a different kind of confidence that comes from your teacher introducing a topic and you thinking, “Wait… I already know this!”

Most importantly, I want you to enjoy learning with me. Ask me anything, make mistakes, laugh when we get something completely wrong - we’ll figure it out together.
