About Victoria
I am a 24 year old student from Germany who currently lives in Scotland. I have finished school in 2016 and moved to Scotland as an au pair for a year, then went back to Germany for University but came back to Scotland to finish my studies and stay here long term. It makes me sad when children say they don't like biology because understanding how your own body and the world around one works is so interesting and as the past years have shown, so important! But then again from my own time in school I know, that it often just depends on the teacher. I want to pass on my love and passion for biology. And once you've got it, genetics is not complicated at all!

In school biology has been one of my favourite subjects and unlike many I never had lots of problems with genetics. Naturally I studied biology at the University of Hamburg, a University of excellence, and graduated my Bachelors in 2021 with a 1,7 (an A). At the moment I am pursuing my Master in molecular life sciences at the Paul O'Gorman Leukaemia Research Centre.
I have a structured approach to tutoring with the student in focus. It is important to me that I do not simply tell students all the solutions and answers but to encourage them to find the answer themselves with my support, as this is the most effective way to keep the topic in the student's mind in long term.
Before I start with a lesson I will find out where the child's knowledge is at and where the lessons in school are at. Then I will use said approach to get the child to catch up with the classes in school. At the start of each lesson I will shortly revise what we have learned in the past lesson, to further embed the knowledge, then move on to the next class.
If time allows it, I will include the one or other at-home experiment to spark the passion and excitement for the topic. One of my favourite experiments to do at home is to extract the DNA of a tomato and make it visible to the eye - no microscope needed. How cool is that?
