About Laurie
I developed a strong interest in biology from an early age, fascinated by living systems and how they function, which led me to pursue a Master’s in Biological Sciences. Over the past 6 years, I have guided students at different levels to understand biology intuitively and practically. My teaching focuses on clarity, engagement, and fostering curiosity while building confidence in applying knowledge.
I create a warm and supportive learning environment where students feel comfortable exploring ideas, asking questions, and performing practical exercises. Lessons include simple explanations, visual aids, real-life examples, and guided reasoning to ensure comprehensive understanding. I emphasise critical thinking and scientific inquiry alongside factual knowledge.
Beyond the classroom, I stay updated with current research, ecological studies, and educational innovations to enrich lessons. Seeing students develop curiosity, analytical skills, and confidence in biology is deeply rewarding. My ultimate aim is to inspire learners to appreciate the living world, approach science critically, and cultivate a lifelong interest in understanding the complexity and beauty of life.

Biology is most engaging when students can relate scientific concepts to living systems around them. My lessons cover cell biology, human anatomy, genetics, ecology, and physiology using simple explanations, real-life examples, and interactive exercises. Students are encouraged to ask questions, think critically, and apply their knowledge to understand processes in nature. Lessons are structured to balance theory, observation, and hands-on exploration, helping learners build strong conceptual understanding and scientific reasoning.
I adjust lessons based on student levels. Beginners focus on cell structures, organism classification, and basic physiology. Intermediate students explore genetics, ecological systems, and human body functions in greater depth. Advanced learners study experimental design, data interpretation, and molecular biology topics while preparing for exams or research exercises. Each lesson includes guided practice, reasoning support, and interactive discussion to reinforce learning and engagement.
Biology teaching goes beyond memorisation. Students develop observation skills, logical reasoning, and the ability to analyse and connect biological concepts. My goal is to nurture curiosity, analytical thinking, and a passion for life sciences. Learners leave lessons with greater confidence, appreciation for biology, and the tools to approach science thoughtfully and independently.
