Approach: My teaching philosophy is rooted in the belief that understanding is more crucial than rote memorization. I prioritize a student-centered approach, where learners are active participants in their education, rather than passive recipients. You will be engaged!
Techniques: I often use open-ended questions to stimulate critical thinking and help students arrive at answers on their own, with appropriate guidance when necessary. I particularly like to emphasize information literacy/research/analytical skills so that students can get to a place where they are confident in discovering approaches to drive their own learning. I always strive to relate subject matter to real-world scenarios, making learning relevant and engaging.
Typical Lesson Plan (for engaging with new/unfamiliar topics):
Introduction (5 min): Brief overview of the topic and its relevance, and agreeing on the learning outcomes to be achieved.
Warm-up (10 min): Short quiz or discussion to gauge prior knowledge and engage students.
Main Content Delivery (25 minutes): Presentation of the core material using slides & videos to supplement lecture; always emphasizing sources of knowledge, research & analytical skills.
Interactive Session, Wrap-up and Summary (25 minutes): Discussions, problem-solving activities, or Q&A sessions; Revisiting key points and summarizing the lesson.
Follow-up plan (5 minutes): Assigning tasks or projects to reinforce the learning.
Tutoring plan for those needing specific support for projects, theses, preparation for competitive exams will follow a tailored approach.
What sets me apart as a tutor is that I recognize that each student is unique, and I tailor my teaching methods to suit individual needs. I consider myself a lifelong learner: As an educator, I continuously update my knowledge and skills, ensuring that I provide the most current and effective teaching methods. I believe in regular feedback, both giving and receiving, to ensure continuous improvement in the learning process. Finally, beyond academics, I offer guidance and mentorship, helping students navigate their academic and career paths.
