About Tina

Although I don't have any formal tutoring experience, I have taught and helped many of my peers throughout our iGCSE And Highe Level Biology, explaining topics like the cardiac cycle, or how to answer a particular exam question. Also my experience as a student who did iGCSE and IB HL Biology means that I understand how to effectively teach this subject.

About the lesson

Hi guys,
I'm Tina and I'm currently reading for a Bachelors in Biology at Queen Mary, University of London. As it says in my title, I provide secondary and primary school students with 1-to-1 tutoring in the subject, including 11+, 13+, GCSE's, A-Levels and IB. When we first begin, I'll ask you a few questions: what course you're currently on; what grade level you're looking to achieve; what grade level you're currently on; what your problem areas are; and what your strengths are. From here, we can decide the intensity and frequency of our lessons, meaning that we can plan out lessons in advance or we can go from week to week as long as you keep me well informed so that I can prepare. Some topics will take one lesson and others will take multiple, depending on difficulty and most importantly, on you, which means that we'll go at a pace that's challenging but not too fast. It doesn't matter if it's a whole topic or a type of exam question that you struggle with, by going through your previous work, we can sit down and say, 'this is where we went wrong' and then we can address this stage by stage until your understanding is extremely comprehensive. I believe that once you fully understand a topic, it makes it easier to recognise solutions and solve problems in exams. I'll give you exercises to do week to week, to consolidate your knowledge of what we just covered, be it exam questions, exercises, reading and notes, a presentation, a quiz, making a model or preparation for a discussion. As it gets closer to exams we can increase the intensity or just focus more on past papers. Ultimately, my goal is to make sure you know that you can confidently handle doing a dihybrid cross or that you know the digestive system inside and out so that you can achieve the grades you want.
