About Mari

Hi, I'm Mari! I'm a certified science teacher with a bachelor's degree in Marine Biology and several years of experience teaching biology and environmental science in the classroom. I've worked with students of all learning styles and ability levels, from those who need extra support to those looking for a greater academic challenge.

I know that science can sometimes feel overwhelming, especially when it's full of unfamiliar vocabulary and complicated processes. My goal is to make those concepts easier to understand by breaking them into manageable pieces and connecting them to real-world examples. I believe every student can succeed with the right guidance, encouragement, and a learning approach that fits their needs.

I strive to create a relaxed, supportive environment where students feel comfortable asking questions and making mistakes. Learning should build confidence, not anxiety. Whether you're preparing for an upcoming exam, trying to improve your grades, or simply want a better understanding of biology, I'll work with you to help you reach your goals.

About the lesson

I believe the best learning happens when students understand *why* something works, not just how to memorize it. My teaching style focuses on breaking down complex scientific concepts into clear, approachable lessons using real-world examples, diagrams, discussions, and interactive activities. I encourage students to ask questions, think critically, and explain concepts back in their own words to make sure they truly understand the material rather than simply memorizing facts.

A typical lesson begins with a review of previous material before introducing a new concept with visual aids and guided instruction. We then work through examples together, followed by practice questions or activities that allow students to apply what they've learned. I finish each lesson by checking for understanding, reviewing any challenging topics, and creating a plan for what to focus on next.

What sets me apart is my background as a certified high school biology teacher combined with my degree in marine biology. I have experience teaching students with a wide range of learning styles and abilities, and I adapt each lesson to meet the individual student's needs. Whether a student learns best through visuals, hands-on examples, or step-by-step explanations, I adjust my approach to help them succeed. My goal is to build confidence alongside knowledge so students leave each session feeling capable and prepared.

My lessons are designed for middle school, high school, and introductory college students studying biology, environmental science, marine science, ecology, or general science. I also help students prepare for classroom exams, standardized tests, honors and AP-level coursework, and strengthen their overall scientific thinking and study skills.
