About Varun

I’m Varun Rathi, a microbiologist with a PhD from IIT Ropar, where I researched bacteriophage therapy against antibiotic-resistant bacteria. I’ve qualified GATE, NET and CSIR-UGC JRF, published in peer-reviewed journals. I enjoy helping students truly understand the subject, not just clear exams.

About the lesson

I believe students learn best when they can see why a concept matters before they are asked to memorize it. In my classes I start from a real problem, such as a resistant infection that won’t respond to antibiotics or a wound that won’t heal, and work backwards to the underlying biology, so that theory arrives as an answer rather than a list of facts. I mix short explanations with discussion and frequent questions, and I ask students to explain ideas in their own words, because that is where gaps in understanding show up. Wherever possible I bring in examples from my own laboratory work in microbiology and biomaterials, along with recent research papers, so students see how textbook knowledge is used and questioned in practice. I use diagrams, case studies and simple hands-on demonstrations for visual and practical learners, and regular low-stakes quizzes and feedback to help everyone track their own progress.
