I have two approaches for the two kinds of students I get. One, they don’t understand the underlying math concepts as their foundation is slightly weak, so while sticking to the curriculum, I simultaneously strengthen that foundation by relating the concepts back to basics to gain a more in depth understanding that is better for retention and problem solving. Two, students with good foundation but struggle with the current concepts, with whom I say practice makes perfect. I teach them the content first and assist them in doing multiple questions while explaining the way these problems need to be approached and explain the thinking process which I believe is the most crucial component, since their test questions will not be the same. You need to be able to approach a new unseen question with the right mental model.
