About Madeleine

I am a Cambridge Classics graduate who spent a bit of time messing about working in advertising before training as a Latin teacher just before the lockdowns started.

I have taught senior school students of all ages and genders, and now work at a leading London independent school. When I'm not teaching kids about types of pillars I like painting and cooking, and I have a very elderly cat who will occasionally make a cameo appearance in my online sessions.

I really believe that the more comfortable you feel while learning, the easier it feels, so I make sure my lessons are relaxed and unjudgmental as well as effective. There's nothing worse than feeling humiliated for finding something difficult (for me that something was always Maths) so my lessons are about celebrating the wins as well as picking apart the tricky bits.

About the lesson

I am a Cambridge Classics graduate (2.1 Hons) and fully qualified Classics teacher with over 3 years experience teaching Latin, Ancient Greek and Classical Civilisation from year 7 through to GCSE and A level. I have also supported students through successful applications to Cambridge university Classics. I can of course provide a DBS check and QTS certificate upon request for your peace of mind.

My approach to tutoring is completely non-judgmental. Whether you or your child needs help finessing their Oxbridge interview technique or learning their verb endings for 11+, I to approach every student with understanding and patience no matter where they are on their Classics journey. I tailor every session to the specific needs and strengths of each student, and always aim to build confidence and enjoyment of the subject alongside improving exam scores.

I have extensive experience preparing students for both GCSE and A level exams in all three subjects, and am very familiar with examiners requirements and marking criteria for all the above.

I offer online sessions of 1 hour duration for year 7 to A level students, but can also offer 45 or 30 minute sessions for younger students if that is what you need. I can offer some in person sessions, but only in certain areas of London. Please do contact me if you have any questions!
