About Jamie

I'm a Cambridge Masters (MPhil) graduate in Christian Theology and Philosophy of Religion and first class graduate in Philosophy and Theology with a lot of experience as a tutor.

Having scored a 9 in GCSE and A* in A-Level RS I am well placed to teach school content, and have done so for several years. I can also help with essay competition writing, having placed in the global top ten in the John Locke Institute Theology Essay Competition, and having subsequently helped to mark the competition.

About the lesson

When learning new content, my lessons include some direct teaching, but have a focus on immersive discussion and constructive debate; this is the best way to engage with learning philosophy and theology, and helps to hone key analytic skills.

As well as learning new content, my lessons can help with planning, structuring and writing essays.

Whilst my lesson structure is flexible to suit your needs, lessons typically begin with an open problem or question to train logical and analytical thinking; we then move on to learning new content, before finishing with a discussion about some key issues relating to the new content.

I can also help to discuss and plan essays and personal statements (including Oxbridge and Russell Group applications), but I will not write them for you (no matter how nicely some people have asked!). I have strong experience helping students prepare for Oxbridge admissions tests and interviews, with several of my students receiving offers from both Oxford and Cambridge.

Perfect! Jamie has been a fantastic support throughout my R.S. A-level studies, clearly explaining complex concepts and actively engaging with me to deepen my understanding. Our discussions on the nature of God and religious language were particularly elucidating and helped me develop more precise and critical lines of argument.

Jamie was also instrumental in improving my essay-writing skills. Through detailed feedback and guidance on structure, argumentation, and clarity of expression, I became more confident in constructing well argued and rigorous essays.

As an independent mature student returning to education after a number of years, I also greatly appreciated Jamie’s wider academic support. He was able to act as my academic reference for my UCAS application, and I subsequently received an unconditional offer to study Law at Cambridge.
