About Avery
Hello, I am Avery, and I bring a wealth of expertise in chemistry education and research to my role as a tutor. With a PhD in Chemistry from UCLA and a background in teaching undergraduate general chemistry and organic chemistry courses, I am passionate about instilling a deep understanding of the subject in my students.
With over a decade of experience in one-on-one tutoring around the United States, I have had the privilege of guiding students through various levels of difficulty in chemistry. Currently, I am engaged in cutting-edge scientific research in the field of medicinal chemistry. My work involves utilizing computational modeling for drug discovery, contributing to advancements that have real-world applications.

As a dedicated tutor, my approach to teaching is founded on the principles of personalized learning, engagement, and fostering a supportive environment for my students. I aim not only to impart knowledge but also inspire a genuine passion for chemistry specifically and for science in general.
My teaching method revolves around understanding the unique learning styles of each student. I believe in creating an interactive and dynamic learning experience, incorporating visual aids, real-life examples, and hands-on activities to cater to diverse learning preferences. I encourage open communication and foster a collaborative learning environment where questions are not only welcomed but actively encouraged. In fact, my main approach is to ask questions in a more Socratic way. In chemistry, this style answers the immediate question as well as common misconceptions or other scenarios around a specific topic.
Each lesson is meticulously planned to cover key concepts while ensuring a balance between theoretical understanding and practical application. Most of what I do is assist the student with specific homework problems; however, I am qualified to teach chemistry "from scratch."
