About Katharine
I am a Chinese major with over 12 years of language experience and practice, including several intensive study weeks in China. I've been helping out beginners retain new vocabulary, improve pronunciation, and listening comprehension for several years with excellent results. I also have extensive knowledge in other areas; such as Chinese history, linguistics, philosophy, international affairs, and culture.

My teaching method is to be prepared, but flexible in my lesson plans. Since I teach beginners, my tutoring approach is to meet you where you're at and to help you advance in the areas you're struggling in. Depending on a student's level, I base my lessons on basic dialogues, newspaper articles, or simple PowerPoint presentations. I always come prepared for lessons with a few set goals in mind, but I always leave room for general conversation and questions. I encourage my students to expand their interest in Chinese, whether that be in the continuation of their language studies or in Chinese history!
