About Gideon

I’ve been playing the piano since the age of 7, and I’m completely self-taught by ear. Music has always been part of my life — I come from a deeply musical family, where learning by listening and feeling the music was natural from a young age. My dad is a multi-instrumentalist who plays saxophone, trumpet, piano, and drums, and my uncle plays the same instruments professionally, performing on larger stages with well-known gospel artists such as Sinach. Growing up around this environment shaped how I understand music — not from sheet music, but from listening, responding, and playing freely. Alongside piano, I also play guitar and bass, both learnt by ear. This has given me a strong understanding of harmony, rhythm, and how different instruments work together in a church setting. I have a real passion for teaching both children and adults, especially those who want to learn music in a natural, expressive way. My goal is to help students develop the skills needed to pick up songs quickly, play confidently in church, and express themselves musically without relying on sheet music. Whether you’re just starting out or already playing and want to grow in confidence, my lessons focus on helping you truly hear the music and enjoy playing it.

About the lesson

I offer gospel piano lessons focused on real church playing, not sheet music. I play entirely by ear, which is a key skill for gospel and worship settings where flexibility, listening, and quick adaptation are essential. If you want to: - Play confidently during church services - Pick up songs quickly after hearing them - Follow a worship leader without sheet music - Understand chord progressions, voicings, and gospel harmony then these lessons are for you. My teaching focuses on: - Playing by ear - Chord recognition and progressions - Gospel-style voicings and runs - Transposing on the spot - Supporting congregational singing naturally Lessons are practical, interactive, and tailored to your level — whether you’re a beginner, already play a little, or want to improve your church musicianship. Sessions can be held online or in person, depending on what works best for you.
