About Bayla

Hailing from Leicester, North Carolina, Bayla Davis is an exceptional tour-de-force in traditional Appalachian music. Beginning her musical journey at just 6 years old in the Junior Appalachian Musicians (JAM) program, she has spent well over a decade mastering the deep, driving rhythms of the clawhammer banjo. Her profound talent has taken her far beyond the mountains, earning her prominent stages at major national festivals and events including MerleFest, the International Bluegrass Music Association (IBMA), and Béla Fleck’s Blue Ridge Banjo Camp. Recognized nationwide as a premier voice of her generation in roots music, Bayla has been featured on NPR’s From the Top and showcased in its Where Music Lives film series. Studying under master mentors and blending deep respect for traditional old-time phrasing with a modern, versatile touch, Bayla represents the absolute peak of clawhammer artistry—making her uniquely equipped to pass down an authentic, soulful, and joyful masterclass in the craft.
