About Rebeccah
My name is Beccah Benedict, and I've been playing music my whole life, and loving Oboe for the past 6 years of it. Unfortunately, I have a deep and personal understanding of the frustrations that oboeists face specifically when trying to receive instruction in a group ensemble/traditional band setting. It's very easy to get lost in the crowd of more common instruments, and oboeists are often not given the same one-on-one attention that other instruments receive. I've played in the first chair position of various musical ensembles and orchestra pits for the past 9 years, and have previously held the positions of Drum Major, Section Leader, and Vocal Director, and have done casual private lessons for friends and family for years. My musical background includes 12 instruments total, and participation in marching bands, classical wind ensembles, small group vocal jazz, ladies' barbershop quartet, large group vocal ensembles, musical theatre of all kinds, solo vocal performance and of course, oboe!

I will utilize my knowledge of the inner workings of a wind ensemble to focus on the player's skills as a solo player, making them more valuable to the ensemble in the long run. As well as learning the balance of selfish and selfless habits that music requires . By taking the time to be 'selfish', a student focuses only on their own sound and skill as a musician, during private practice times. In contrast, a students 'selfless' habits support the sounds of others during group rehearsals. ----Lessons will be focused on the student's individual musical goals, in order to help prepare them to transition to whatever step might be coming next in their musical journey. (Beginner-intermediate, middle-high school, preparing for high school or college auditions, etc)
-Students will be encouraged to learn songs that they help choose in order to learn and practice the musical concepts that they need to meet/exceed grade level standards on their instrument.
-Musical concepts that we will be working on include, but are not limited to, good practice habits, proper care and maintenance of your oboe, reading sheet music precisely, sight reading with accuracy and speed, how to prepare for an audition, responsibilities of playing in an ensemble, scales and key signatures, tuning tips, intonation practice, finding performance opportunities, and practicing performing in front of a small group.
