About Hua
Hi, I’m a composer and music educator with a Doctor of Musical Arts degree in Composition from the Peabody Institute of Johns Hopkins University. I teach music theory, composition, ear training, orchestration, and score analysis. I enjoy helping students understand music in a clear, creative, and practical way. My lessons are patient, organized, and tailored to each student’s goals and level.

My teaching style is patient, clear, and student-centered. I adapt each lesson to the student’s level, goals, and learning style, whether they are learning music theory for the first time, preparing for an exam, improving their composition skills, or trying to understand music more deeply.
A typical lesson begins with a quick check-in about the student’s questions and goals. Then we work through concepts step by step using explanations, musical examples, exercises, and real repertoire. I focus on helping students understand the logic behind music, not just memorize rules.
As a composer with doctoral training from the Peabody Institute of Johns Hopkins University, I bring both academic knowledge and creative experience to my lessons. I especially enjoy helping students connect theory with sound, expression, and imagination.
My lessons are suitable for beginners, intermediate students, college music students, adult learners, and students who need support in music theory, composition, ear training, score analysis, or creative musical development. I teach in English and Mandarin Chinese.
