About Bartek

Hello, my name is Bartek. I am 24 years old and I have pursued a career as an actuary from my passion for mathematics, graduating from college with a 1.1 First Class Honours. That being said, actuarial maths is very niche and specific, and it's taken me away from the wide range of maths I got to experience in school and in college.

I enjoy tutoring because it gives me an opportunity to get closer to maths through different people's perspectives – you would be surprised how much you can learn by listening to someone else work through a specific problem, even if you understood it yourself! It's a perfect two-way system: I get to share different approaches and techniques with students who find those they get at school don't suit them, and they, in turn, teach me new ways of thinking that I haven't seen before.

About the lesson

Empathetic Approach: anybody who has gone through education or tutoring is all too familiar with teachers who prioritize themselves: they place their own understanding or prestige ahead of the student. I believe that learning should put the student at the forefront of their own education. There is no use drilling in explanations that don't stick with the individual when mathematics provides a bounty of explanations for any one topic. As a mathematical enthusiast and hobbyist, I love finding new ways to explore all mathematical topics, and I spread this through my tutoring.

Tutoring Info:

Who the tutoring is for: I am happy to tutor anybody at a LC or JC level for both higher and ordinary maths.

Lesson length: tutoring sessions will be an hour at a time, flexible up to an hour and a half when necessary. Research and experience show that students learn better in short, consistent sessions over longer periods of time, and tutoring sessions longer than an hour typically provide diminishing returns from loss of focus and fatigue.

Qualifications: I am a tutor who has tutored at both a college and leaving cert level with a deep understanding of the mathematics that underpin LC education.
