About Em
Hey, there, I'm Em! I'm a graduate student in Economics and an experienced tutor for high school and early college learners. I specialize in AP and 100-level economics, high school math (Algebra I/II, Geometry, Pre-Calc/Stats foundations), and test prep. I’ve worked with students across abilities and backgrounds, helping them strengthen core skills, meet their goals, and feel confident on exam day AND beyond.

My teaching philosophy is simple: meet students where they are, then remove barriers to learning, enabling them to reach their full potential. Practically, that means I begin with a short diagnostic conversation and a few low-stakes assessments to pinpoint what’s solid, and what needs shoring up. From there, I build a personalized plan that blends:
Clear scaffolding (step-by-step breakdowns and worked examples)
Active learning (think-alouds, Socratic questioning, and real-world applications)
Retrieval practice & spaced review (quick recall checks and smart scheduling so knowledge sticks)
Executive-function supports (checklists, study frameworks, and exam “game plans”)
Universal Design for Learning principles (multiple explanations—visual, verbal, symbolic—so concepts click your way)
In economics, I make graphs intuitive and useful—connecting supply & demand, elasticities, market structures, and policy tools to everyday decisions. In math, I focus on patterns and connections so you can transfer methods across problems. For test prep, I'll combine targeted content review with timing strategies, error patterns, and realistic practice to reduce anxiety and boost performance.
A typical session ends with a concise recap, a few “must-do” practice items, and a plan for the next meeting. I’m communicative, flexible, and committed to a supportive and judgment-free environment. I want you to feel that your questions are welcomed and progress is measurable.
If you’re ready to build clarity, skill, and confidence—let’s get started!

Great tutor. She was engaged and met my daughter where she was. I appreciated the compassion she showed for her personal challenges.
