About Faruq

I am a third-year Economics and Mathematics student at New York University. I have earned multiple academic honors in mathematics and economics, and I also have experience working as an after-school math tutor, where I helped students strengthen their understanding of core concepts and improve their performance in class.

My tutoring approach is focused on clarity, patience, and building strong foundations. I do not just aim to help students get the right answer, but to make sure they understand the reasoning behind each step so they can solve problems independently in the future. I adapt my explanations to each student’s pace and learning style, especially when they feel stuck or frustrated with the material.

In a typical session, I review key concepts, work through guided examples, and then gradually shift toward independent problem-solving. I also make sure students leave each lesson with clear takeaways and confidence in what they learned.

What I want students who work with me to gain is not just better grades, but a stronger understanding of math and economics, more confidence in their abilities, and a clearer way of thinking about problem-solving. My goal is to help students move from feeling lost in the subject to feeling in control of it.

About the lesson

My approach is focused on building strong conceptual understanding rather than memorization or short-term exam tricks. I work through each topic by first making sure the student understands the “why” behind the method, then reinforcing it with guided practice and gradually increasing independence.

In a typical lesson, I start with a quick check of prior knowledge to identify any gaps that may be affecting current understanding. From there, I introduce or review the core concept in a clear, step-by-step way, often breaking problems into smaller parts. We then work through examples together, and I gradually shift the student toward solving problems on their own while offering feedback and correction in real time. At the end of the lesson, I usually summarize the key ideas and suggest a short set of practice problems to reinforce what we covered.

What sets me apart is that I come from a rigorous economics and math background and focus on clarity and patience rather than rushing through material. I understand how frustrating these subjects can feel when foundational steps are missing, so I prioritize filling those gaps so students can actually progress instead of just memorizing procedures.

These lessons are best suited for middle school, high school, and early college students who need support in algebra, precalculus, calculus I, or introductory economics (including AP Microeconomics and AP Macroeconomics). I am especially helpful for students who feel stuck, lack confidence in math, or want to improve their problem-solving skills in a structured way.
