About Ella

Hi! I'm Ella, a Journalism and Creative Writing major at American University. I love helping students discover that writing and English don't have to be intimidating but they can actually be enjoyable with the right support. Outside of tutoring, I'm interested in creative writing, surfing, and music! I bring creativity and real-world writing skills into my lessons. I believe in fostering a welcoming, judgment-free environment where students feel comfortable asking questions and learning at their own pace. My goal is to help every student leave each lesson feeling more confident than when they arrived. Whether we're working on homework, essays, reading comprehension, or preparing for a test, I'll be there to encourage you every step of the way. I look forward to helping you achieve your goals!

About the lesson

I'm a Journalism and Creative Writing major with over four years of experience tutoring students from elementary through high school. My goal is to help students become more confident writers, readers, and critical thinkers/ My teaching approach is student-centered and tailored to each learner's needs. I begin by identifying a student's strengths and the areas where they need the most support, then create lessons that match their learning style. I believe students learn best through encouragement, active participation, and consistent practice, so I focus on building confidence while strengthening essential reading, writing, and communication skills. A typical lesson includes reviewing previous material, introducing or practicing a specific skill, working through examples together, and allowing students to apply what they've learned independently with guidance and feedback. What sets me apart is my combination of academic expertise and real-world writing experience. As a journalism and creative writing student, I understand both the technical aspects of writing and the importance of finding your own voice. I'm patient, adaptable, and committed to helping every student reach their full potential. My lessons are designed for elementary, middle school, and high school students seeking support in English, reading comprehension, grammar, essay writing, creative writing, vocabulary, and general academic writing. I also help students prepare for school assignments, exams, and college application essays.
