About Cassandra

As a person and tutor, I am bubbly, energetic, and encouraging. I use positive reinforcement and work to understand each student's unique style of learning, so that I can tailor my tutoring to meet their needs.

My qualifications regarding academic understanding are as follows:
-I recently graduated from Kent Place School (my high school) with a 4.3 unweighted GPA, taking classes such as AP BC calculus, AP chemistry, AP physics 1, multivariable calculus, AP computer science A, and more.
-I was accepted into and attended the NJ Governor's School of Engineering and Technology as a rising senior. While there, I took classes in modern physics, nanofabrication, and materials science; conducted research on nerve guidance conduit (NGC) devices; and toured company facilities at Lockheed Martin and Bristol Myers Squibb.
-I am an incoming freshman at Johns Hopkin University, with an intended major in electrical engineering.

My qualifications regarding tutoring/teaching are as follows:
-I tutored high school students in precalculus and algebra as a part of my school's peer tutoring program.
-I tutored an elementary school boy in arithmetic via the Learn To Be platform.
-I worked as a camp counselor in the TEKI Program at Camp Yachad. While there, I taught programming in Scratch and building Mindstorm robots to campers.

About the lesson

My teaching methods:
-Before the lesson, I will ask my student for the topic of interest. Using that information, I will prepare a lesson plan and find practice questions to guide the tutoring session.
-During the lessons, I will first gauge my student's knowledge of the topic. Then, I will teach/review the content with the student and demonstrate how to complete a sample practice problem. After, I will ask my student to work through example questions and will make corrections or reiterate information as needed. I focus on translating content into steps or thought processes that my student can use when answering questions.

Who my lessons are for:
-Age range: students in elementary through high school.
-Subjects: basic math (arithmetic, fractions, etc), algebra, precalculus, calculus, AP computer science A, Java, chemistry, and AP chemistry.
