About Joan
Hello! My name is Joan, and I am so excited to tutor with you. I am a Summa Cum Laude graduate and I look forward to continuing my adventures at Texas A&M. Across high school, I discovered a passion for math, which is why I look forward to studying electrical engineering. With all A’s across all high school math (Algebra 1, Algebra 2, Geometry, Pre-Calculus) and even advanced math (5 on AP Calc AB/BC), I am committed to teaching you and watching you grow in your skills. For me, the most rewarding part of teaching is seeing your student’s confidence bloom as they learn why math works, not just how. With me, you won’t just memorize formulas, you will learn why they work. I always approach math with the “I do, we do, you do” system. First, I will explain the subject and welcome any questions the student may have. Afterwards, the student and I will work through problems together. If the student feels lost, I will provide small hints to guide the student in the right direction. By the end, the student will be able to complete practice problems with little to no assistance.

My tutoring work began when I volunteered to be a tutor for Schoolhouse. Here, I racked 21+ tutoring hours, hosted 16 different SAT prep sessions, and obtained 31 positive ratings. This experience with Schoolhouse trained me into the tutor that you see today, and I plan to keep this growth going. With my previous students, I learned that tutoring is just like math: there are multiple ways to solve the same problem. In essence, expect me to adapt to your learning style. After all, not everyone learns math the same. I will break down problems into simple steps, test your understanding as we work out solutions together, and tackle misconceptions in ways you understand. This approach is what made me a successful tutor with Schoolhouse, and I am confident it will make our tutoring sessions even more rewarding. Expect timely responses and easy scheduling. I look forward to working with you!
